A small number of ENGL 1020 sections have elected to run a "practicum" experience. Typically, these courses meet for three days a week with the third class period reserved for a student-selected learning experience. Common options include things like study groups, peer writing review, attending library workshops, library research consultations, library Studio consultations, Writing Center appointments, or even just visiting the Research Services desk. Each professor has slightly different parameters, but interaction with a library service is the most common allowed activity.
If a student says they are part of an English 1020 practicum, try to determine who there professor is, what sorts of activities are acceptable, and what sort of documentation is required. Direct students to the consultation request form when possible.
